Urodynamic studies are a functional test to see how well the bladder and urethral sphincters perform in their job of storing and releasing urine. The study usually consists of a series of different measurements typically performed together as one test. These measurements can include:
- Uroflowmetry
- Cystometry or a Cystometrogram
- Urethral Pressure Profilometry
- Provocative Manoeuvre Studies
- Pressure Flow Studies
Following the test the data gathered will be analysed and a report produced. Your urology specialist will discuss the results with you and the best treatment plan decided upon.
Guidelines for urodynamics have been produced by the International Continence Society (ICS). These set out minimum requirements for equipment performance and calibration, basic standards for recorded data quality and standardised language to be used in reporting. More details can be found at the ICS website.
